Biography of James McFadden Gaston, explorer and scientist who was born in South Carolina and served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army and practiced medicine in Brazil, 1865-1883, and, after 1883, in Atlanta, Ga. The biography was written in 1948 by Gaston's son James McFadden Gaston, Jr., physician and medical missionary in China.
